Soggy Dream

I have not washed my hair for days
I do not care to clean my face
If I go out I lose my way
As though I'm wand'ring some strange place
I've seen these signs in me before
I find my room and close the door
With voices too loud to consume
I close my eyes to face my war

And it was in a soggy dream
I was awarded some great prize
Amidst a crowd of cries and screams
I started bleeding from my eyes
A woman's hands once known to me
Took off my clothes to set me free
The crowd was gone
A wind came on
And blew me down into a sea

What is this place where I am found
I am no fish
What if I drown
O water water hear my cries
I cannot swim I have no eyes
O spirit world what is my shame
O give me back my mortal frame
So many scenes I left undone
But if I am the one to blame

I want a voice that will be bold
I want a heart that won't grow cold
A skin that knows its backdoor pain
A pair of eyes that cry like rain
I've felt this ache in me before
To leave my room and find the door
Of each lesson in each love
A retribution to the core

And it was in a soggy dream
I was awarded some great prize
Amidst a solitary scene
I beckoned each complicit lie
A woman's hands once known to me
Became my own to set me free
The crowd was gone
A wind came on
And blew me back inside of me
