Ferron in concert!
June 25, 2008
Club Passim, Cambridge, MA
Dubbed a 'culture hero' by Rolling Stone, folk legend Ferron is back with her fourteenth release Boulder, a beautiful collection of songs once again revealing Ferron's established strengths - her words and her unrivaled way of illuminating and connecting through music. This new CD features inspired performances by Ferron along with longtime fans Ani DiFranco, The Indigo Girls, Samantha Parton (Be Good Tanyas), Jd Samson (Le Tigre) and others. Produced by New York-based indie rocker Bitch (Righteous Babe, Kill Rock Stars), giving this folk icon a fresh new sound, this album is in stores June 17, 2008.
Part Cree and part Ojibwa Indian, Ferron hails from the Vancouver area of British Columbia. Eldest of seven children, she spent much of her youth in foster homes, tossed between her mother and an abusive stepfather. At 15, she ran away and never looked back. Ferron recalls, "I was 15. In my shopping bag I had a change of clothes, a toothbrush, my A+W uniform, and a Leonard Cohen album. No record player." She would go on to release 14 albums and become one of Canada's most acclaimed and well-known folk singers.
Ferron's latest CD Boulder is a collection that speaks the voice of a well-traveled folk hero. With a vision to produce this CD, Bitch went to the remote woods of Michigan, and camped outside Ferron's house in her RV, with her studio that consisted of a laptop computer and one microphone. She convinced her idol to let her record these songs.
Ferron and Bitch will tour the record together, performing on stage with light-hearted banter and songs that captivate and go right to the heart. A powerful union of two poets, this unique collaboration unites two generations of standout performers.
