Boulder CD Review
by Chris Narloch
Ferron - Boulder
Short Story Records
This singer/songwriter and poet from Canada is a fixture in women's music and folk music circles, and her influence on musicians such as Ani DiFranco and the Indigo Girls is undeniable.
Ferron's rough-hewn vocals and her poetic songwriting have a startling clarity and honesty, and she has been dubbed "the Johnny Cash of lesbian folksinging."
You can hear echoes of Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen on Boulder, which features a dozen new songs produced by a woman named Bitch (my favorite name for a producer ever). Standout tracks include "In the Meantime," "Misty Mountain," "It Won't Take Long," and "Souvenir."
